It’s all so very daunting when you enter your favourite beauty store to pick out a mascara, there are so many things to think about before you buy. Like, ‘do I want natural or dramatic’, ‘thicker or finer lashes’ ‘oh I need to buy that mascara I saw on the advert!’ and the thoughts go on. Over the years, I’ve come to realise that I sway towards natural fluttery lashes as oppose to the thicker look. I’ve also learned that eyelash curlers are a tool I can’t live without, they travel with me everywhere now because I always get that added oomph to my eyelashes which stays put for the whole day and they also open my eyes out a bit more. So I wanted to compare Maybelline’s The Rocket Volum’ Express mascara and The Body Shop’s Big and Curvy, where I’ve achieved two both different sets of results and I’ll show you why.
Maybelline The Rocket Volum’ Express
The first thing I noticed was the chunky brush. When the mascara is coated on the lashes, they become a little clumpy and quite difficult to separate out too. If you look closer in the image below, the mascara gives you an illusion of almost fake looking lashes – which is great for some, and I do prefer it to some extent, but it’s not what I’m after for an everyday kind of look. I find that I’m coating, twisting and turning my lashes several times, and it can get messy if you’re not super careful (in the mornings) due to chunky brush.
However, what I do like about it, is the super intense jet black pigment I get from wearing it as it’s very obvious to see. Also, when it comes to that dreaded moment of having to remove this mascara at the end of the day, it doesn’t actually smudge all down your face. Some bits of the pigment flake away, but the remainder sits quite nicely on the lashes and looks really natural – odd! I’ve never seen that before. But, this also means that it’s very stubborn to remove.
The Body Shop Big and Curvy Mascara
If you’re looking for natural fluttering eyelashes for everyday wear, this is the product you should be after! The brush is much slimmer than Maybelline’s and so the advantage is that coating lashes is very easy. The brush reaches right from the base of the roots and drags out to the tip in one go, elongating your eyelashes pretty much instantly and without any mess either. That is also true for bottom lashes too, overall giving you a much more softer appeal.
The downside to this product is that the drying time does take longer than the average and it can be removed quite easily too.
Although both mascaras claim to give you bigger and thicker eyelashes, this is only true for Maybelline, which gives you tonnes of volume! For more definition and flicky-uppy looking set of eyelashes, it’s clear to see that The Body Shop mascara is the way forward.
